Everything I Wanted to Blog About This Weekend But Didn’t Get Around To Because I Was Busy Doing (Mostly) Nothing And Loving It

July 19, 2010

Thursday’s concert in the park; the delicious egg-salad sandwiches I made for us to take in our lovely picnic basket; the sweet, juicy, organic strawberries we savored for dessert, along with creamy mini peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s (oh, and lemonade! Tasty, refreshing lemonade!); Helly’s friend hula-hooping in the middle of the park, carefree and content; giving Joe a Sharpie earring…

Friday’s invigorating spin class; my first (ever!) swim in the pool at our complex, which was delightful, refreshing, and relaxing; how I read the first third of another Feynman book Joe suggested, while sunbathing at said pool; how I spent the rest of the afternoon doing some laundry and vegging out to Season Six of Gilmore Girls (for the umpteenth time); my delicious tacos from Chipotle, followed by Joe and me seeing Inception at the downtown theatre (it’s a SERIOUSLY good flick, totally worth seeing on the big screen); how we came home expecting all the power to be out but then it wasn’t…

Saturday’s trip to the brand new Ross in town, complete with successful finds of a couple dresses and a couple nice work-appropriate shirts; how I slurped down a giant, healthy(ish) smoothie from Blenders and didn’t die from weird fruit allergies; how I booked it (pun intended) to Borders to snag the second book in the Pretty Little Liars series (don’t judge me) and this month’s book for my goodreads book club; how I went home and plopped on the couch to read a few pages from the new book club selection and then, five hours later, had to stop to do stuff like eat and pee; how even though I’m not even halfway through this (600-page) book, I have a feeling it may become my Favorite Book Ever of All Time (and yes, I will try to write a full-blown post about this book when I finish it); how Joe took me out for another lovely dinner (Chili’s!) and then we met up with another couple to see Despicable Me in 3D (cute!); how we came home expecting all the power to be out but then (again) it wasn’t…

Sunday’s fun at the French Festival; walking around outdoors in a (very) short, strapless sundress because it was finally warm enough and it just felt like the French thing to do; eating crepes with Nutella and marveling at the RIDICULOUSLY huge jar of Nutella in the window of the trailer serving them; falling asleep on Allan and Helly’s couch because apparently sunlight makes me sleepy; how I went home with every intention of cleaning every corner of our condo but instead managed only to finish my laundry and straighten up my desk and the top of my dresser a bit (but hey, I put ALL that laundry away, and that’s quite an accomplishment if you’ve seen my closet); how I filled a couple bags with more clothes to give to good will; how I blazed through another couple discs of Gilmore Girls Season Six and how relieved I’ll be when I finish the series (again) and can take a loooooong break from THAT obsession for awhile; how I totally intended to go grocery shopping for the week but then just didn’t…

And there you have it.

My weekend, if you couldn’t tell from all the rambly semi-colon-laden sentences, was absolutely delightful. Full of rest and relaxation, and yet packed full of productivity and fun, too. It’s a good thing it happened, because if it had been any less lovely, then I would be curled up on the floor under my cubicle right now, crying over how STUPID everything is. Because isn’t that what Mondays are for? To slap you in the face with a dose of the Everything-Sucks-es? It just makes me appreciate my weekends that much more. (Side note: my Monday really hasn’t been that bad, but I AM terribly thankful that I came in with a positive attitude or everything that HAS gone wrong would just have set me off the edge way too early in the week…)

How was your weekend?

Sounds like a fabulous weekend! And agreed – giant Nutella is enough to make ANY day just about the best ever. :) Ours was wonderful and jam packed – wedding, theatre festival, and late night bonfires with Celtic versions of Bon Jovi songs busting out – pretty good! :)

Sounds like an awesome weekend, Tabitha! (Why were you expecting the power to be out so many times?) I had a low key weekend which I desperately needed. I sort of need another one this weekend. I haven’t taken nearly enough down time this summer.

Sounds like a great weekend, jampacked with good things.
as far as i’m concerned, chipotle tacos + gilmore girls is a double win right there.
