Weigh-In Wednesday: I feel good! (da na na na na na na)
Can I make a little confession to you guys?
This morning, when I stepped on the scale, I was more excited to take a picture of my toes than of the results. See, last week my sister and I got pedicures, and I was pretty happy with how mine turned out.
BUT.
And this is a big BUT…
Then I got on the scale and THIS happened:
Not only did I lose over two pounds this week, but I am now officially OUT OF THE 160′s!! Gah! I am so excited. (But still, click the picture to see the full size image of my awesome pedicure. It’s actually a little lighter in color, but my weigh-in photos are straight-out-of-camera.)
Anyway, let’s look at the stats:
Starting weight (4/21/10): 167.8
Last week’s weight: 161.6
Current weight: 159.4
This week’s loss: -2.2 lbs
Net difference: -8.4 lbs
I’ve lost 8.4 pounds in seven weeks. (And technically, I’ve lost 9.4 pounds in SIX weeks, because my first week I gained a pound.)
Speaking of that first week’s gain… I think my determination these past six weeks has been largely due to the embarrassment of telling everyone that my first week of “trying to lose weight” was a complete failure. So, in a way, I’m sort of glad I gained that first pound, because it made me realize just how important it is to be intentional about what I put into my body, and what I put my body through in terms of exercise. And for those of you who may have seen a small gain on a particular week, I want to clarify: I don’t actually think that a weight gain means I’m a failure. Sure, in that moment when I saw the +1 on the scale, I felt pretty crappy about myself. But in retrospect, a weight gain isn’t the end of the world, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that I did something wrong or was a slacker. (Watch, next week, I’ll end up gaining back another pound just because I’m saying all this…heh.)
Anyway, just for fun, I created a spreadsheet to track more details on my weight loss, like the percentage lost each week, pounds left to lose before I hit my goal, etc. Wanna see it? You might notice that as of today, I have lost 5% of my total body weight since April 21. And then you might also notice that I only have another 6% to go before I hit my (first) goal. Still another thing you might notice is that I have my goal weight listed as 150 pounds, even though in my 101 in 1001 list, I said I want to get down to 145. The thing is, I’m starting to think that I may not NEED to go down to 145, so I’m shooting for 150 and we’ll see how I feel when I get there.

{Update: I made a fun little chart to go along with my spreadsheet, only I wanted it to be prettier than Google Docs allows, so I just made it in regular ol’ Excel. This is mostly for my own visual benefit, but if you’re on a weight loss journey yourself and want some spreadsheet/chart love of your own, let me know and I’d be happy to help you get started!}

YAY!! That must be such a good feeling to get out of the 160s – way to go! (I had a similar feeling recently when the countdown was out of the 200s to the wedding!!)
LOVE the toes, too! Congrats on another week of being awesome
Woo! You go girl! You’re inspiring me to stay on track with my own workouts, even though I don’t have any tangible goals to shoot for (which would typically make it HARDER to stay on track)– that inspiration oughta balance out any self-consciousness from your husband”s teasing ;-P
Oh, I’m not teasing her these days…she’s having a hard time getting me to keep my hands to myself…she looked good before…she is looking AMAZING these days.
I think Helly meant that you’ve been teasing HER…
Well, maybe I just wanna brag on how good you’re lookin’ these days.
teehee.
Yay! You’re doing great. Woohoo, 150s!
I’m playing along. My WIW post is here: http://dutch84.blogspot.com/2010/06/weigh-in-wednesday.html
You did great this week. Keep up the good work!
i am so, so proud of you!
BB and I are trying to lose the weight we’ve gained in the 2 months we’ve been married…and it’s a work in progress. Perhaps I’ll join you on weigh-in wednesday next week…
who knew that eatling less and working out could lead to losing weight? ; )
Yay, congratulations!
Could you send some of your determination my way, please? I am in such a rut.
You are so so so so close to ten pounds! Wahoo! Good for you love, keep pushing forward.
Best,
Hannah Katy
I actually thought of you on Monday and was going to send you an email, even though it wasn’t WIW. Monday morning, 8:30, before coffee, I weighed in at 168. Worked all day in the San Fernando oven-like heat, lacquering cabinet drawers. Weighed in at 5:30, after two beers…162. Six pounds in nine hours…maybe a personal best.
Six pounds in a day?! You’re working too hard… But I must admit I’m happy to know that I finally weigh less than you!
Yes, and the weekend is here…which is why on Monday I can lose so much, because Saturday and Sunday I might totally turtle…watch golf and eat. So by Monday morning you may weigh much less than me… but, Monday is a work day!….
Well done! Your progress is fantastic.
I lost about 35 pounds over the course of a year last year. I think everyone that goes through a weight loss journey has to learn how to accept the inevitable weight gains that will happen. I had to learn that the scale wasn’t always going to tell the whole story. So some weeks I’d work out a ton, eat healthy, and gain 1-2 lbs. It would somtimes put me in tears, but then the next week, I’d lose like 3 or something like that. I learned that it takes patience & that’s you have to keep the big picture in mind (ie the amount you’ve lost so far and the fact that you can always make up for a bad week the following week).
Yea for you!
Congrats on the weight loss! that’s awesome =) You’re doing sooo weell.
You are doing SOOO amazingly well! I just hit my 8-lbs mark and it took me 4 months to lose that! (I fall off the wagon a lot…) So how are you doing it? (i.e., exercising, eating habits, INDULGING IN CRAVINGS -my weakness-)
And yayy for being out of the 160′s. I’ve been floating along in the 140′s for 4 months and cannot wait to see 139 on the scale THIS MONTH. (Because it will happen this month. I know it will. Hopefully.)
good job! btw… your pinky toes are so cute and tiny!
