I love the stick!
So, last night something rather hilarious happened at our small group Bible study. As often happens, the discussion of things like the apocalypse and water turning into blood began to deteriorate into how you could make it LOOK like the water had turned to blood by putting tons of the red-flavored Lik-M-Aid powder into the sea. And THAT little discussion deteriorated to the greatest TWSS of all time (okay, maybe not, but it was funny). We were talking about Lik-M-Aid / Fun Dip (best kiddie candy EVER), and I said, “I love the stick!“
…And then about three of the eight people there giggled a little, and the rest didn’t get it. Which is why I keep you around, dear blog friends, because you can appreciate a good TWSS, right?
Anyway, when Joe and I were on our way home, I tweeted (and, by way of linkage, I facebook-statused) the following:
Tonight I said, “I love the stick!” –> I’ll give a $10 Starbucks gift card to the first person who can guess what I was referencing.
So it turned into an impromptu little giveaway. Surprisingly, I only got ONE response via twitter, and it wasn’t even a guess, just a, “Wow, I have no idea, but that’s a GREAT twss.” Which I appreciated. (Thanks Mandy!) But on Facebook? Man, was there EVER a competition going on. There were about nine people who commented guess after guess after guess, and it was the most hilarious status-comment-stream I’ve ever read in my life.
Don’t believe me? Here. I’ll let you read it word-for-word. (Warning: it’s gonna seem really long, but you can read it all in like two minutes.) I’ll even color-code it to hopefully make it easier to see whose comments are whose. This could totally backfire and be a major distraction, though.

Helly said: Hmmm, I feel like I have an unfair advantage in having just read Joe’s dad’s comment on HIS status. Was it one of his guesses?*
Kris said: A pregnancy test?
Katie said: Pee test?
?
I said: Nope, Ben’s (Joe’s dad’s) guesses weren’t right. And nope, it wasn’t a pregnancy/pee test.
Helly said: Deodorant? Memory stick?
Katie said: Do we get more than one guess?
Rachel said: cheer stick?
Katie said: Popsicle stick with a joke on it
?
Katie said: The stick that they stick into your hot drink at sbux to keep it safe on the road
?
Katie said: I really just like typing
?
I said: Sure, you can guess more than once! And nope, not a memory stick, not deodorant, not a cheer stick or a popsicle stick. Good guesses though!
Helly said: Tide stick? Joe’s stick (the obvious)? Not “the stick” but “TheStick”?
Helly said: (apparently I like typing too
)
Rachel said: i hope im wrong….joe’s frank and beans?
Katie said: OMG! You can’t guess Joe’s Stick. That is perverse! LOL!!! (I was totally thinking his stick as welll.)
Helly said: I can, too! ;-P But if that’s the correct answer I’m not sure I WANT the gift card!
Katie said: hahahah!? Do we think so little of Tab? Would she really tweet that for all the world to see? (Actually…probably. sigh.)
Helly said: Depends on how much Joe has corrupted her so far
Terri said: A stick shift?
I said: Hahahaha, you guys are cracking me up. So far none of the answers are right (not even Joe’s “frank and beans” lol), but all are clever! Keep going!
Rachel said: stick of butter?
Katie said: Bread stick?
?
Rachel said: stick on nails?
Helly said: Stick figures?
Rachel said: cheese stick?
Rachel said: Oooh bread stick was a good one Katie.
Helly said: Is it the name of a tool more pleasant than those cold metal jaw things for “pappy wappy”s?**
Rachel said: lisa frank stickers?
Rachel said: muscle reliever stick?
Katie said: Helly, they make plastic speculums now! Much more comfortable!
Less cold.***
Carlos said: Japaneese game show
Helly said: Ring-sizing stick?
Helly said: @Katie– that’s good to know! Sounds like it would be a little more malleable than metal, too, maybe?
Katie said: It is still hard (sadly).. but just not cold
Lets see.. my next guess is a stick. Like you know, just a stick.
Rachel said: haha
Katie said: A STICK IS A PERFECTLY VALID GUESS.
Rachel said: I completely agree. I hope you’re right.
Helly said: LOL. I think it’s brilliant, Katie. We’re all searching so hard for expressions and euphemisms we’re missing the blatantly obvious. That is, the non-dirty obvious…
I said: Bwahaha I am LOVING this. But nope, none of these guesses are correct…
Carlos said: How about I love stick figures
Katie said: Stir stick? Thermometer? Car decal? Stick in the mud? (I am loling so hard over here!)
Helly said: Walking stick? (although that’s really more for Joe… or Allan!)
Helly said: Hair curling/straightening stick?
I said: No, no, and no. And a bit more no. Keep trying!
Katie said: I am out of guesses. I can’t believe it wasn’t the stick that keeps your drink from spilling.
My mom said: THE STICK MARATHON STICK BODY MUSCLE MASSAGER SG-2000
I said: @Katie — I do love those sticks, but it’s not the one I was talking about.
@Mom — HUH?
My mom said: Or maybe this: The Order of the Stick (OOTS) is a comedic webcomic that celebrates and satirizes tabletop roleplaying games and medieval fantasy through the ongoing tale of the eponymous fellowship of heroes.
Katie said: LOL!!
Helly said: Man, I’m running out of fuel here. Foundation?
Katie said: You are just googling “stick!”
My mom said: Or stick figure death theatre… Okay, that’s enough googling for me for now.****
Helly said: LOL– Tabitha, your mom gave the same guess that Rachel and I already did– some massaging stick called “The Stick”
Kris said: How about a kabob stick
Joy said: stick as in the stickiness between two surfaces? stick as in a video game controller? stick as in sticking to a surface like thighs sticking on a leather couch on a hot day? although… I’m not sure why you would love this, lol) stick as in reference to certain foods sticking on surfaces??? i don’t even know…. stick as in a stick of gum… that’s all i’ve got hahaha…
My mom said: Don’t make us go to bed without an answer!
Helly said: Chopsticks. Drumsticks. Chapstick… I’m grasping at straws here…
I said: Haha…well, if EVERYBODY gives up, then I’ll give the answer. Better reply quick if you want to keep guessing!
My mom said: Okay, one more: The Stick phone line sharing device. This was a good google…it’s something I could use at work.
Helly said: Shaving stick? Blackhead removal stick?
Katie said: Looks like Tab is gonna keep the sbux card alllll to herself
Helly said: Well if she does, she should treat us all to a round of coffees to make up for the chores left undone because we’ve sat here glued to the screen, laughing at the constant updates to this thread
Oh, who am I kidding, by “we” I mean “I”
My mom said: Is anyone even close? Can you give us a hint?
Kim said: Pick up stix?! The delicious food? Or was it an otter pop stick? OR the dip stick from fun dip?! Bahaha ummm so either I am a total fatty or you and I bonded and enjoyed a lot of food together cause all of my guesses have to do with that!
Helly said: @Kim — Ohhh noo, you’ve given me SUCH a hankering for Fun Dip now!!
Kristin said: Stick games?
Kim said: @helly that makes two of us! Oh the greatness of that sweet and sour sugary combo!
Kristin said: Hockey?
Kim said: Longevity stick class? Bahaha
I said: KIMBAAAAAA! You did it. The “stick” I was referring do was the little white sugar-stick that they put in packets of Fun Dip. You win!! Yayyyy!
Thanks for playing, friends.
I said: PS – Some really AWESOME answers, seriously. I’m impressed.
My mom said: I do believe Kristin may have it with “hockey sticks.” I’m not sure why, but it just sounds right.
Kristin said: I so love those sticks also, and just recently had one from Catalina’s Valentines. Bummer!
Kristin said: I think these are the most responses from a post that I’ve seen!

So, Kim totally wins! And she’s lucky, because sometime shortly after I said, “Well, if EVERYBODY gives up…” I actually dozed off for a few minutes, giving her time to make the correct guess.
Happy Tuesday, loves!
*For the record, Joe’s dad guessed, “So she’s driving the Mustang finally? or using your flight simulator…just watch her on the rudder pedals.”
**FYI: Yesterday, as you know, I had a pap smear. And then later in the afternoon, this happened. Hence, “pappy wappy.”
***Dang, I wish my gynecologist had given me that option. Cold metal = not fun up in there.
****TWSS. Also, this is where I get my penchant for Googling.

I totally missed this, but too funny! Not as funny as your ‘possibly related posts’ though, haha
Oh, I was rolling. Especially at the little side conversations that sprouted up here and there (mostly me and Katie, it seemed?) I checked at one point earlier on, and there were 63 comments posted in the span of 52 minutes. What’s the current tally?
It’s really weird, after your comment saying that Kimberly won, I didn’t get any more notifications– not on email, not even on FB itself. So I’m glad you posted it here so I could see the rest
I actually thought Rachel had it with the Cheer/Tide stick, but when Kimberly mentioned the Fun Dip, I figured that had to be it. I love both the stick AND the powder, and get neurotic about eating them separately– first the powder, then the stick
And I’m rolling at the thought of puzzled glances at small group– really!? I would’ve thought most of them would get it. I’m honestly shocked. Let me guess– one of the “clueless” was JP?
And one last question– what does TWSS stand for??
I’m pretty sure that Taylor and Leah got it, and possibly Jeff. And “TWSS” is “that’s what she said” — a running joke from The Office. Oh, and I think the final tally of comments was 75!
I have visions of Leah trying to explain it to JP, like the day she tried to explain our “she likes it in the ear” story. I think watching *that* is always funnier than the original joke/story/comment itself!
Hahahaha, that is awesome. I can’t believe you didn’t get more tweeters. Confession, I was actually following that thread on facebook for a while. It kept me amused during commercials in between the Olympic ice dancing competition. =) I love that your mom just went straight to Google. I may or may not have done that too. (I thought maybe it was a quote from a movie.) So internet high five Tabitha’s mom, we rock. I just sat here laughing at my desk and got a few strange looks from people passing by.
ARGH! I cannot believe I didn’t guess fun dip!
This is soooo much more hilarious the next day. I am funny when I am tired.
Wow, that is the longest chain of comments ever! Even if I was following Twitter at the time, I don’t think my mind would have gone to fun dip.
haha, that was a great TWSS convo…
fun fact (or maybe not so fun)–i had to explain to blog boy what twss stood for…
Confession: I didn’t know what TWSS stood for until about a month ago. I told my parents and now they use it
Fun Dip. OMG. I used to go to 7 Eleven all the time when I was in elementary school on my way home (I could literally walk to my elementary school & there was a 7 Eleven next door to it then, and it was, gasp!, safe!) to get a cherry slushy and fun dip. I usually just sucked on the stick instead of enjoying the sugar. (It’s also kind of fun to use the word stick in a sentence like that. I feel like Lady Gaga throwing that word around.)
I thought I’d share a snippet of the IM conversation Allan and I had while all this was going on (he was at work, I was at home)
[21:19:28] hellykwee: i’m having too much fun on FB at the moment
[21:19:40] hellykwee: guessing Tab’s “stick” and now razzing Steve
[21:20:22] Allan: LOL
[21:20:30] Allan: OK, I’m packin’ up and headin’ home
[21:20:34] Allan: with my stick
[21:20:35] hellykwee: haha, ok
[21:20:36] hellykwee: LOL
[21:20:44] hellykwee: don’t be surprised if you see me sitting here laughing
[21:21:19] Allan: at my stick?
[21:21:24] hellykwee: LMAO!!!!!!!!
Hi Tabitha,
Thanks for reading my blog! I like yours a lot, too! Seems like we have a lot in common. I also like writing a lot and was doing it for years until I let that talent “fall asleep” so to speak (I don’t believe I’ve lost my touch completely). I thought about majoring in English, as well, but ended up choosing graphic design and Spanish instead. I envy your residence in California. I live in MI and we are in our 4th month of winter… ugh. I would like to add your blog to my Google follower, if you don’t mind! Very fun to read. God’s blessings to you!
-Jill
But I DO love the stick.
Twss.
