Lackluster Wednesday.

February 17, 2010

I’ve been feeling just slightly under the weather this week, but not enough to call it “sick” or “worth staying home from work.” Just a dull, constant headache, a little dizziness, and a lack of energy. Maybe it’s stress, or lack of sleep, or maybe my job has finally worn me down to the point of braindeadedness.

We’re hoping to hear back in the next couple of days from the folks Joe interviewed with last week, but we have absolutely no idea what the outcome will be. Certain things happened during the interview, Joe said, that made him think it could go either way. So we are still crossing our fingers, but at the same time trying to stay realistic.

I looked at myself in the mirror the other day, before I got dressed, and noticed The Bulge that has been gradually expanding around my waist. And then I saw the twin cousins of The Bulge, Chunky and Flabby, gripping grubbily around my thighs. And even though I’ve been reading this guy’s incredible weight loss journey, I can’t help but feel discouraged and pessimistic about the prospect of losing any weight. I start eating healthier, or at least eating less. I go to the gym, work out hard, and then I’m hungrier than Fat Bastard and I eat everything in sight and then we’re kind of back at Square One. (And it doesn’t help that my allergies give me trouble with raw fruits and veggies, so I rarely eat anything green or leafy or, you know, good for me.)

I found out today that two people in our branch at work have quit their jobs. It seems there’s something in the air around here; people want out. Apparently Joe and I aren’t the only ones…

And that concludes today’s poorly-constructed blog post.

Would cooking those fruits and veggies help? Not quite as nutritious as raw, but better than abstaining from them altogether? I guess it depends on the type of allergy– for me, my fruit allergies to stone fruits seems to stem from some sort of protein on their surface. So while I cannot eat raw apples, cherries, pears, peaches, apricots, nectarines or almonds, I *can* eat them if they’re cooked or otherwise processed (e.g. canned).

Oh my gosh, I had NO idea you had similar allergies! Yes, cooking them does help — generally if they’re cooked I’m fine. With some fruits and veggies I can even handle them raw if they are organic, but it’s always a bit of a risk. What I really need to do is just start planning meals more diligently, and finding healthy recipes to try.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Joe. I can understand wanting the feeling out. I’ve been there myself lately. Hoping for some good news soon.

I’m sorry you had a blah day. HUGS!!

I couldn’t lose weight to save my life the first year I was married. I still can’t, really. Why is losing like five or ten pounds so hard?? The only time I lose weight is my first trimester of pregnancy… like THAT isn’t annoying!

I hope that everything works out with Joe! And I’m with you on weight loss, my little body is not letting anything go. In spite of not eating dairy and running at least three days a week for the past month I’ve lost no weight at all. I guess my body is happy where it is and I need to get on with just being happy about it =)

Oh, I’m sending prayers and positive thoughts to both of you *Hugs*

I feel you – I’m trying to lose my little “padding” in the front before the wedding and I find when I do exercise, I’m SO hungry afterwards I just devour everything and render it all futile. Gah!!

Girl, I know how you feel about the allergy thing. I SO MISS eating fruits & vegetables. I fortunately can have lettuce & spinach but it gets old… fast. All I can say with regards to the hunger post workout: protein, protein, and protein will help. Consider drinking a slim fast (I love the Target brand) when you’re done because a) studies show that milk is better for you than water in building tissue/muscle repair and b) it’s got protein and fiber in it that will make you feel full. If you don’t like that, chicken, turkey & spinach will do the trick.

I know how you feel though, with regards to weight loss. I was doing well with my running & gym going and eating less and then I got slammed with a stupid sickness which is setting me back with my running. Not cool.

I really hope Joe gets the job! Sending prayers & good thoughts your way.

Maybe you’re not eating enough. Or maybe you’re not eating at the right times. It sounds weird, but if you’re increasing your activity, then your body needs more energy. And if not, it will revolt. Also, skipping meals is bad. The key is to eat small meals and snacks every few hours, so your body constantly has something to burn (and then some). I’m no expert here, but it might be worth talking to a nutritionist just to get you on the right track.

I agree with this. Especially with your food allergies preventing you from eating a lot of healthful stuff (though I guess cooking helps)– a nutritionist might be able to help you strike a good balance.

Last time Allan and I were in Vegas, we did so much walking that I was constantly hungry. I swear I ate more than Allan! We purchased an all-day buffet ticket at our hotel, and boy did I get every penny’s worth. While Allan napped, I went downstairs to snack. I still ate relatively good-sized meals, but the steady flow of food helped.

yeah…. we want to find some sort of cooking healthy to get less fat stuff when we get married. if we find something good, i’ll certainly pass it along, however keep in mind that neither of us have allergies of any kind… so take them with a grain of salt. :)
