The Winners! (with a special guest appearance)

February 4, 2010

It’s the moment you’ve all (and, let’s face it, I’VE totally also*) been waiting for… It’s time to announce the WINNERS of my Fabulous Blogoversary Giveaway!

Now, if you’ll remember, there were four separate prizes: a sock zombie, a piece of handmade-just-for-you jewelry, a Starbucks card with a copy of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, AND…a mystery prize. And for each prize, there was a different way (or ways) you could enter.

I decided, instead of using the random number generator (boorrrrring), to go the old-fashioned route and pull the winner from a hat. But I’m taking it one step further…and doing (some of) it on video! All you have to do is click “Play” to find out who will win the sock zombie, the jewelry, and the mystery prize!

But first, I’m going to announce the Starbucks/book winner here, because I didn’t want to make the video too excruciatingly long, but I wanted to talk a little about the person I chose, because this one wasn’t picked at random.

Since only four people entered to win the Starbucks card and book, I thought, Hey! This will make it easier to choose a winner! See, I was worried about getting 20 different responses with people’s amazing posts about how blogging has changed their lives, and I was beginning to get a bit nervous about picking just ONE. So, four entries? Piece of cake, right?

Wrong! Twenty entries or four entries, they were ALL lovely. It was not an easy decision, but I had to pick just one, because I don’t have money coming out my ears to give each of them a gift card and a book, much as I’d love to.

So, without drawing out the suspense any longer, the winning post was… Ashley’s! What I really enjoyed about Ashley’s post was how she compared childhood to adulthood, noting that as a kid, there’s no judgment for what you create, but as an adult, people can be kind of harsh sometimes. And blogging, for Ashley, has helped her to take hold of something she loves, regardless of what people think of it. (Yay!) So, congrats to Ashley! I hope you enjoy The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society — it’s a really fun book!

Read the other entries here and here! (Sarah also entered, but her blog is protected, so you’d have to get her permission to check our her great response to the prompt.)

And NOW on to the other three winners. Watch the video! (FYI, I had intentions of actually editing it so that certain parts would be removed, like the first ten seconds, and the last ten seconds, but I ran out of time and hey — it’s all about being real here, right? So I hope you won’t judge me for my robot pajamas, lack of makeup or saying the word “nipples”. Thanks!)

[schmoop] Wasn’t it sweet of Joe to be in the video with me? And isn’t he just the goofiest, greatest, cutest guy ever?! [/schmoop]

In case you’re unable to view the video or you just really hate the sound of my voice, I’ll sum it up:

The winners are…

1) Sock Zombie: Katie Pike
2) Jewelry: Serena
3) Starbucks/Book: Ashley
4) Mystery Prize (Hawaiian Kukui nut bracelet and necklace!): Nora

So, you four lovely ladies can email me at tabitha[dot]blog[at]gmail[dot]com with your address and I’ll get these prizes out in the next week (except possibly the jewelry, since that takes a little bit of time to create)!

And all the people who asked me questions for the sock zombie prize will have their questions answered over the next week or so, so stay tuned! It should be fun.

*I’ve officially decided that two weeks to enter a giveaway is way too long. The suspense seriously killed ME, so I can only imagine what it did to you guys.

That’s me! I’m your friend Carrie! I’m from Hawaii! I didn’t win, but you mentioned me in the video and that makes me feel very special. (Unless you have 2 friends from Hawaii named Carrie, in which case I am very embarrassed right now.) And you were right, kukui is pronounced koo-koo-ee, Good job. And good idea for a prize.

There are two things I learned from this post::

    1. We need to start a Sock Zombie Fan Club

    2. We need a support group for those of us bitter about not winning

    3. Joe is a great catch. Does he have any single brothers/male relatives?

    Tabitha, you rock! :)

      1) I like the sound of that. You can also go to the Sock Zombie makerherself and tell her how much you love them! 2) Aww, don’t worry. There will be other giveaways! (And FYI, one of my bloggy pals Mindy is a FANATIC about finding and entering giveaways. Follow her at @mindymerenghi and you’ll find zillions of giveaways on a pretty much daily basis. 3) Thanks! And nope, unfortunately, Joe’s only brother is engaged to be married on March 27th of this year.
      :-)

I’m sad I didn’t win anything. :( oh well. Thank you for your sweet words! And no, they would not let me go past 42 weeks before inducing me but I am thinking and hoping Logan will be here before then. My dad is convinced it will be Monday, but who knows!!

What a fun post. I think drawing the winners on the video was a great way to go. It was fun that Joe was willing to do the drawing and let his fun personality shine. Love you both!
