Flashback

January 22, 2010

After we left my cousin’s house, where we’d just had a nice double-date, he took me to the place where he went for junior college. Even though it was well after 10 PM, we managed to get on campus and sneak past the security guards hanging around. As we strolled around, he’d point to a classroom and tell me which class he had there, stories about his professors, tales of pranks he pulled back in the day. He just wanted to share with me.

We held hands. We’d stop here and there to kiss a little, then he’d tell me another story as we continued walking around.

At one point, he led me toward a gigantic set of stairs and I joked, “Wow, this is gonna be quite the workout. Are you trying to tell me something?” But he insisted we walk all the way to the top, because he wanted to show me something. (That walk up all those stairs was probably the first time he witnessed my pathetic lack of athletic ability, as well as my awesome asthmatic wheeze.)

When we got to the top, he made me close my eyes. Then he turned me around, positioned me just so, and told me to open them.

What I saw was the whole San Fernando Valley, lit only by a few street lamps and the glow of the moon and stars.

But I also saw something more than that. I saw romance and nostalgia. I saw a man who knew exactly what he wanted, and I saw that what he wanted was me. I saw the beginnings of love sparking between us.

And then?

Then we walked back to his car, and he told me to wait outside. He opened both doors and turned his iPod on to Stompy Jones’s “Along the Navajo Trail” playing through the speakers.

And then he danced with me, in the middle of a dark, empty parking lot.

And I was done for.

I’m pretty sure I would have melted right then and there.
I wouldn’t have been able to hide it.
Love that song, thanks for sharing…well, thanks for sharing all of it :)

Oh my goodness, WOW! That’s so wonderful.
Every now and then Mister and I dance in the living room and I feel like I’m about the luckiest person on earth. Love a little romance!

Wow. Does he have a brother? I think I could trade Mr E. in for a romantic model.

Haha! He does have a brother, but he’s getting married this year. Sorry! :-)

    Oh my God, SWOON!

Does that really happen in real life? Sigh.

Oh man. I just actually listened to the song. It made it worse. OH GOD THERE IS SOMETHING IN MY EYE. *cough*

Seriously, though. That is the most perfect story ever.
