Awkward Vlog Day!

January 21, 2010

Okay, kids. The moment you’ve all been waiting for: The Romania Vlog.

I have to preface this by confessing that I suck at being brief. Which you will soon discover, if you make it through this whole video. My first take was 15 minutes long, and since I don’t have any video editing programs, I had to retry it.

My second take?

Still ten minutes long. Sorry, pals. I won’t hold it against you if you don’t watch the whole thing. The good news is that the MOST embarrassing part is toward the beginning (where I sing).

And also: I do this weird “tsk” thing a lot. How did I never know that? I’m sorry for my strange little ticks and noises and incoherent speech (and also all the strange clapping). Oh, and for the little bit of hair that is sticking out on the left (your left) side of my head. Awwwwkward.

OH. Annnnnd, the video ends very abruptly, because Youtube cut it off at 9:12, which makes me really sad. But it took literally ALL night to upload, so I am not about to try it again. Therefore, I owe Cari a mini-vlog where I recite her requested Romanian phrase, since that was basically the last thing I was saying that was of any importance, right when the Youtube gods decided that I needed to be done.

Without further ado: the vlog. Stay tuned afterward for a much shorter, cool supplementary video.

Okay — here, to help me fulfill Helly’s request for a Romanian drinking song, is a random video I found of just that. Sorry I couldn’t be the one singing!

***

So, what’s the verdict? Am I awkward or what?

If I ever decided to embarrass myself do another vlog post, what kind of things would you like to see?

***

What would it take to talk YOU into doing your own little vlog?

Oh you have such a beautiful singing voice!! I love that you guys were being mobbed by teenagers like you were The Beatles when you were there! Fields of sunflowers sound amazing! That was never something that I would have thought of, thank you.

And you saying my phrases made me totally giggle. A lot. =)

I know….and she has the right range to NAIL Etta James’ “At Last”. Every time she has attempted it just a little bit, my jaw has hit the floor.

      (Seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVI254QGSQ4 )

I say we pester her until she does. :)

Finally lunchtime so I can watch this :-)

Yay, beautiful singing (of course). Thank you!
Is it me, or do hymns sound so much more beautiful in other languages?

Oh, and I’ll take your tsks and hand claps over “uh” and “um” fillers that lots of other people do, anyday!

Awwwww, I love it! You’re so cute, and your voice is beauty-ful! My next door neighbors are Romanian and I taught myself how to say hello in Romanian over the summer. They LOVED it, and since then have been bringing crepes over to me and my boyfriend :-) Not that I would know either way, but it sounds like you speak the language quite well. What a cool skill to have.

Well done! If that’s awkward I’d hate to see you on a good day! LOL.

That was fun. Loved hearing you sing again, and I vote with Joe for a Tabitha rendition of “At Last” next. Come on, do it!

You are an amazing singer! That hymn was beautiful. Romania sounds amazing and I love your “Yay, mom!” I have attempted to blog and it never turns out well so I stick with the written word.

  11. January 21, 2010 9:59 pm

That should be I have attempted to video blog. Perhaps I should attempt proofing before I hit submit.

Aww, I love seeing you describe a place you love. And I’ll echo everyone else and point out that your voice is rich and lovely! :)

    Excellent voice!!!

  16. January 25, 2010 9:01 pm

Seriously, you are embarrassed by that singing? You are GOOD. Yeesh.

  17. January 26, 2010 1:34 pm

You are a brave soul for doing a vlog. That’s something I have yet to do. Likely because I hate my voice! hahaha. I love how much you clap – it’s like a matter of fact clap, not the awkward seal clap. ha. Thanks for your insights on a continent (ha, I know it’s a state, you don’t have to correct me) I know very little about.

    #1 you rock at singing

#2 i can’t stop staring at the hair now that you mentioned it. i probably wouldn’t have noticed but now i can’t stop staring

#3 lots of green in north dakota. :D you’ll see (?) in may. YAY!!!

#4 my heart broke just a little bit when it cut off my part… but i’m excited for the mini vlog to me just to say that.

#5 you’re not awkward, you’re adorable. i totally want to put you in a jar in my pocket and take you home with me and put you on my shelf. and look at you. (how’s that for creepy?)

and this song is hilarious for a number of reasons. the guy’s facial expressions. and the crazy 70′s-ishness behind him. like… wow. amazing. you win!

very sweet. thank you, and we’re flattered :) .

guess what, saw the post where you were announcing this and was about to post a link to… the exact same drinking song :) ), but in another interpretation. it’s probably the most tame (and fun) drinking songs, if you learn to sing it till your next visit (hope for there to be a next visit), romanians will fall off their chairs when they’ll hear you :) . it says “this is how good people drink, from saturday till monday” (and then tuesday, wednesday… etc.)

your pronounciation is great, only topped by the voice.

where all have you been to romania? ‘d be glad to give you some further tips – let us know when you want to grab your husband and show him the world ;) . got the email in the comment form.

    cheers!
