You can’t even handle how riveting this post is…

January 16, 2010

I always forget how much satisfaction I get from giving my home a seriously intense cleaning. It’s really kind of awful, actually, because I convince myself that I hate to clean — like it’s the absolute worst thing I could possibly imagine doing — and then I let things get way more out of control than I should. And then, when the place is gross enough that I’d almost rather just move into a new place than actually have to touch anything…THAT’S when I decide to get down to business.

Okay, so I might be exaggerating a little. (Or possibly not. You’ll never know.) But anyway, since we’ve been getting rid of crap and making things more organized around here, I knew it was a prime time to give our condo a deep scrub-down.

It wouldn’t have happened just yet, though, if it weren’t for the fact that we offered to host a game night with a bunch of friends yesterday. Let me rephrase that: on Wednesday night, we offered to host a game night just two days later. If that’s not motivation to crack down and clean up, I don’t know what is. I mean, I wish I had taken a picture of the absolute CHAOS that was our place just yesterday morning. We’d been working little by little on sorting, organizing, getting rid of crap, and finding good places for everything…but the key phrase there is “little by little.” We were kind of moseying our way toward a clean place; but yesterday morning, we took off like a friggin’ ROCKET.

Not only did we get everything in our living room put away in a strategic manner, but we also got the bathroom organized, and our bedroom about 90% squared away. And then I went crazy with the sponge.

People, I was on my hands and knees, scrubbing our bathroom floor like Cinderella. Except without the singing or the reflections in giant floating bubbles. Or the mop bucket. So basically I just had a sponge and some Lysol bathroom cleaner, and I went to TOWN. I scrubbed down the bathtub, washed the mirrors, disinfected EVERYTHING, and ooh boy did it feel good. Granted, my hands feel like they have a semi-permanent film of GROSS all over them, but it was so worth it.

We have a CLEAN HOUSE! And an organized house!

And this might be the most boring post to read, but I’m having fun writing it because it’s the first time I’ve sat at a computer for longer than a few minutes since, like, Thursday. And that’s just WRONG. I missed you, little WordPress text box. And you, too, awesome multiple-tabbed Firefox window.

…Ahem. Sorry, just had a little moment there.

Happy Saturday! I’m off to go make some pretty jewelry, and maybe after that I’ll come home and organize my PANTRY! Ack!

P.S. Here’s a little (random) trivia for you: Today, January 16, 2010, was the original date that Joe and I looked at for our wedding. I’m soooo glad we went with August. I couldn’t have possibly waited another five months to get my groove on marry my soul mate!

Nothing feels better than a clean and organized house, that’s for sure!

Ah, I totally get that feeling of satisfaction that comes with a job well done on cleaning the house.

When we moved into our 2-bedroom we put off unpacking boxes/bags of stuff for a while. It had been a busy few weeks, and we wanted to rest. Besides, now that we had a bigger place it was easy to keep those boxes and bins tucked away, out of sight, relatively. Then my parents came up to visit Thanksgiving weekend and we made a mad scramble to put everything away :-) Nothing quite like impending company to get your butt in gear :-)

I love that feeling!! What I do when I’m scrubbin’ away like that is use those disposable latex gloves, makes cleaning ugliness much nicer on your hands. :]

Gah!! I had one of those moments today; we went to the big uber wedding show and everyone was getting married this summer and it made me feel like December was a MILLION miles away! *Shakes fist* lol way to go on your cleaning though – this week’s going to be Mega Clean Week before we go away; both my dad and D’s mum are cat-sitting so it’s time to actually tackle those dust bunnies!

I LOVE the way a house feels after a crazy big cleaning jag like that!

    cleaning always makes me happy.
    always.
    i’m a bit of a dork.
I kind of want to be a professional organizer which involves cleaning + organizing, labeling buying bins. At least that’s what I assume it entails since I’ve never had that as my profession =)

dude, i always wait to clean until the cleaning bug hits me–lucky for me, that’s every two weeks or so. i wish my roommate would get that bug too, she leaves her dirty dishes in the sink for weeks at a time. grossness.

I love organising and cleaning things – but like you I let things get pretty bad before I man up and do the cleaning, however, I am not horrible at maintaining the clean :)

    Enjoy your clean organised house!

*cleaning high five* I had friends coming over and cleaned my place from top to bottom too. It is hard for me to get started, but once I do I am a cleaning machine. I still need to get rid of some stuff though. I moved to a one-bedroom apt+office area from a three bedroom house last year and did get rid of A LOT when we moved, but there is still more that could go!

Umm, yeah. That’s the only time I clean. When people are coming over.
