10: The Plan.

I’ve decided to start writing my bucket list. And in case you don’t know what that is, it’s a list of things I want to do before I kick the bucket.

However, I can’t really think that far ahead. It’s hard enough thinking ten minutes into the future, much less fifty years. So instead of a full-blown “things to do before I die” list, I’m opting to join the ranks of people who have made a list of 101 things to do in 1,001 days. I guess it’s more of a short-term bucket list, then.

It’s going to be tough to come up with a good list for my 101 in 1,001, but I’ve found a couple of helpful places to look for inspiration and guidance. One is this eHow article, another is the Ning group for just this topic, and then there are lists abounding in the blogosphere where other people are attempting the same goal. So I have no shortage of help in thinking of good items to add. Now all I have to do is write it up.

I figure I’ll try to have the whole list written in the next week, maybe two. Once it’s done, I’ll officially start the 1001-day countdown, and I will put my list up here (also clickable in tabs up top).

Any suggestions for things I should add to the list are welcome and appreciated! Or, if you’ve made your own 101 in 1,001 list, tell me how you came up with it, and how it’s going!

I’m thinking I will try to categorize it somehow, and of course attempt to make every goal measurable. You know, “lose 15 pounds” versus “lose some weight.”

After yesterday’s little woe-is-me meltdown, I thought it was time to start thinking ahead, considering where I want to be in the next 1,001 days (about 2.75 years), and deciding on specific things I’d like to accomplish.

Here are a few things I’m already thinking of adding:

  • Eliminate my school loans (currently about $20K, I think)
  • Get down to 145 lbs and stay there (except if I get pregnant, of course)
  • Write and send at least two letters per month – by snail mail!
  • Travel to Scotland with Joe
  • Get braces (hopefully on AND off in 1,001 days…but probably just on)
  • Get my bead website running with regular posts, and…
  • …stock up my Etsy shop and start promoting it to make some money!
  • Get back into the habit of writing in a prayer journal (daily/weekly?)
  • Start a birthday calendar like my mom has, and send out birthday cards to family and close friends (and blog friends!)
  • …and I’m out.

This is going to be a tough list to compose. Seriously, send along your tips, suggestions, words of wisdom, anything!

    I have to sit down and do my list as well. I’m sure I can think of at LEAST 101 things I need to do.

    Some items you might not have thought of:

    *Get arrested (what to get arrested for I leave up to you)
    *Read/Watch at least one Shakespeare play
    *Write a fan letter to a celebrity
    *Go bowling
    *Travel to every state bordering the state where you live
    *Call up a radio station to request a song
    *Volunteer to walk someone’s dog for them
    *Go to a karaoke bar and sing an Elvis song (Presley or Costello)
    *Rent and watch a silent film

    I think you should add visiting the St. Louis Arch to your list, mostly because that means you’ll come see me =)

    Other suggestions:
    * Attend a blogger meet-up
    * Volunteer for a cause you really believe in for at least a year
    * Conquer one of your fears (ex: sky diving/fear of heights)

    Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!

    What on earth do you need braces for?

    As for the birthday calendar– I use birthdayalarm.com, very handy!

    This is such a great idea. I might do one too.

    I have been reading about the 101 things in 1001 days. It sounds intriguing but I am not sure I could actually make up of list 101 things that are achieveble in 1001 days.

    For your list about things like:

    Go to the library and borrow (and read) a book by a Author whose last name starts with A, then B until you reach Z;

    Have a beach Christmas / White Christmas instead of what you usually have (if you celebrate it);

    Learn how to cook your favorite cuisine;

    Donate Blood.

    Well that’s it from me at the moment.

    Good luck with it.

    I’ve never heard of 101 things in 1001 days, but it sounds wonderful. I may have to consider it. I have sort of a floating list of about 15 things that are my general “life goals” at the moment. Currently working on item number one: learn to dance. :)

    Wow. That’s going to be ambitious. I think I’d have to start with 10 items in 101 days. See if I could do even that much.

    I like your birthday idea. I’d be happy to give you some pointers, if you want them. I haven’t done well keeping up with my cards at home the past two years, but I use the same system at work to help Pastor Dave send out cards. I hope to get back on track with sending cards by the beginning of the year.

    Blessings to my sweet daughter!
    Love, Mom

    I’ve seen this 101 in 1001 on a few blogs in the past couple of weeks. I think it’s a great idea, particularly if, as you said, items are measurable.

    I might get started on my own. I’m liking some of the suggestions on here.

    I’ve never heard of the term “bucket list,” but I love it!

    I’d say you have a great list. I miss sending snail mail.
