Conundrum: Solved.

May 29, 2009

I’m sitting in the disaster that is my bedroom. There is a to-do list next to me on one side, and a book on the other (and, of course, a computer right in front of me). Decisions, decisions. Do I start on my to-do list: put away laundry, clean up after the hurricane that struck my little abode, and hit the gym? Or do I pick up the book and get lost in another world? Clearly, I’ve chosen neither of these options at this point. Clearly, I’m staring at the screen in front of me.

I watched Last Chance Harvey this morning. It was a pretty sweet movie, and I really loved watching the natural chemistry between Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. My favorite thing about the movie might have been the fact that Kate (Emma’s character)  is about four or five inches taller than Harvey. It was very cute. Then again, my favorite thing might also have been how Harvey was so charmingly desperate to spend more time with Kate. He didn’t care that he could come across as a creepy American trying to hook up with a younger British chick. He thought she was great, and he didn’t make any excuses about it. Anyway, good movie.

After that, I FINALLLLLLY finished reading Jane Eyre. Took me long enough. I was relieved, quite frankly, when I finally made it to the ending. Not relieved like, “Geez, this book sucks! When is it going to END?” but relieved like, “Oh thank GOODNESS it turned out the way it did. I would’ve been so pissed if she married that other guy.”

All this to say, love is in the air this morning. Love and literature. And that is why I do believe I’m going to pick up that book. A new one. Not a classic, and honestly kind of a random book I grabbed at Target a while back, so I have no idea what it’ll be like. But I’m in a reading mood, and since reading moods seem to come few and far between these days, I’m taking advantage of it.

Don’t worry, dear laundry. I’ll get to you eventually.

I can’t wait to get Last Chance Harvey in the mail from Netflix! I’m so excited about it =) And reading this makes me want to see it even more.

    Ah, Jane Eyre.

What book are you reading now? Do tell!

I wasn’t sure about that movie, but I think I’ll give it a try! Thanks!

Who are your favorite authors when you are in a reading mood? :)

I’m reading a book called The Wednesday Letters, by Jason Wright. I seriously just grabbed it from Target one day because the title sounded fun — didn’t even read the back cover. I started it right after my blog post, and I’m already 53 pages in. I have a feeling I’m going to like it. :)

Some days you just need a good book, regardless of what other pressing matters are at hand. Laundry can wait, but can Mr. Darcy? I don’t think so.

ZOMG I love Jane Eyre. I am so glas it did not end tragically ( a la Wuthering Heights). You should watch the BBC minseries that was made a couple years ago. It is the most romantic thing since, well…ever.
